Ethiopia Yirgacheffe
Ethiopian coffee is a coffee steeped in legend and history, with history attributing Ethiopia as the birthplace of coffee in 850 AD. As the story goes, a young goat herder noticed increased energy and friskiness in his flock after they nibbled on what we know today as the arabica coffee plant. He decided to try some of the beans for himself, and the rest, as they say – is history.
Among Ethiopian coffees, the most treasured is Yirgacheffe, grown in the Sidamo region known for growing top-tier coffee at high elevations of strictly 2,000 meters and above. The ample rainfall and optimal temperatures at high altitudes have led to Yirgacheffe becoming one of the three trademarked coffee regions in Ethiopia. The most premium of wet-processed Yirgacheffe coffee is known by connoisseurs for its medium body with complex floral, fruity notes and a subtle, wine-like acidity.
